daVinci Robotic Surgery Explained

The daVinci® Surgical System is a surgical platform that was approved by the (FDA) in 2000 and was designed to facilitate complex procedures using a minimally invasive approach. (Minimally invasive surgery may cause less pain, scarring, and damage to healthy tissue, and the patient may have a faster recovery than with traditional surgery.)

Though it is often called a "robot" the daVinci System cannot act on its own. All surgeries are actually performed 100% by one of our physicians (Dr. Owens or Dr. Gonzalez) controlling the mechanisms from the console.

Benefits of a daVinci Surgery

With daVinci, a surgeon can perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions and unmatched precision. As a result, patients may get back to their lives faster without the usual recovery following major surgery.

-Lower Complication Rate
-Shorter Hospital Stay
-Less Blood Loss & Likelihood for Transfusion
-Lower Hospital Admission Rate

Where do we Perform daVinci Surgeries

The daVinci system is offered at both Lafayette General Medical Center and Acadia General Hospital for urology and gynecology procedures—mainly hysterectomies.
