Whether you are awake or not during your procedure depends on the type of anesthesia used. For some procedures, we use tumescent anesthesia. This numbs only the specific area being treated, so you stay awake but completely comfortable; you won't feel any pain. Other procedures may call for a different kind of anesthesia that lets you sleep through the whole thing. This is given by a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA), a specially trained nurse whose job is to safely manage your anesthesia and keep a close eye on you during surgery. Your surgeon will discuss the best anesthesia option for you based on the specific procedure and your individual needs.
Yes! A lot of our patients have multiple procedures at one time. It saves them from having to go through multiple recoveries and sometimes can even be more affordable than spreading them across multiple surgeries.
