Overview

What Is a Labiaplasty?

Most women who bring this up have been putting up with it for a while. Leggings, a bike seat, a long walk in the summer, and by the end of the day something is sore or rubbed raw. Some women have also just never liked the way it looks, and are quietly wondering whether that is a good enough reason to ask. It is. A labiaplasty reshapes or reduces the labia, and at Acadia Women’s Health in Crowley it is performed by Dr. Owens.

This is the surgical procedure, not the laser. Dr. Owens trims and reshapes the labial tissue itself, usually the labia minora, and the change is permanent. Some women want less tissue because it pulls or folds. Some want the two sides evened up. Some want both. None of those is a better reason than the others.

One thing worth knowing before you read any further: labia vary enormously, and there is no normal to correct you toward. Plenty of women come in convinced something is wrong with them and leave having learned that nothing is. If that turns out to be you, we will say so. If the tissue really is causing you grief, surgery fixes it, and you do not have to be sure you want it to come and ask about it.

The benefits

What a Labiaplasty Can Help With

The practical wins are the ones women mention afterward. No more chafing on a run or a bike. Leggings, swimsuits, and jeans stop being a decision. Tissue that used to catch or fold no longer does. If one side has always been noticeably longer than the other, that gets evened out.

And there is the part that is harder to put in a bullet point. A lot of women say the relief is as much about stopping thinking about it as anything physical. We are not going to promise you that, but it comes up often enough to be worth mentioning.

What to know

Surgery, Not the Laser, and How It Differs From a Vaginoplasty

People mix these up constantly, so here is the plain version. This page is about surgery: tissue is removed and reshaped, and it does not grow back. ThermiVa is the laser, which tightens tissue gradually with radiofrequency energy and no downtime. The laser cannot remove tissue, so if length or folding is your problem, no number of laser sessions will fix it. And a vaginoplasty is a different procedure again, working on the internal muscles rather than the labia. Some women have more than one of these done.

The other thing to say plainly is that this is real surgery. There is swelling, there is a stretch of weeks with no exercise and no sex, and there are stitches, placed along the natural edge of the tissue where they heal least visibly. It is also worth waiting if you are still growing, since things change through the late teens. Dr. Owens will be specific with you about all of it before you commit to anything.

Kegels and pelvic floor exercises strengthen muscle, and for some women that is enough on its own. What they cannot do is restore tissue that has been structurally stretched. Knowing which situation you are in is what the consultation is for.

Surgery, not the laser

Tissue is removed and reshaped. The laser tightens but cannot shorten anything.

The labia, not the muscles

A vaginoplasty is the one that works internally. This one does not.

Where the stitches go

Along the natural edge, which is where they heal least visibly.

Weeks, not days

Swelling, no exercise, and no sex for a stretch. Plan around it.

Results are not permanent. Depending on the product and the area, they last from several months up to about two years, and touch-ups keep the look consistent. Fillers restore volume but do not relax expression lines, so the best plan sometimes uses both. And fillers are not a substitute for a surgical lift when there is significant sagging. If that is your concern, we will tell you honestly.

What to Expect: Consultation, Surgery, and Recovery

The consultation is private and nobody is in a hurry. You will not shock us, and you will not be the first woman to have sat in that chair struggling to find the words. We will look, talk about what is actually bothering you, go through your health history, and be straight about recovery and cost.

If you go ahead, the surgery itself is done here in our own suites and you go home the same day. Expect swelling and soreness in the first week, and expect it to look worse before it looks settled, which is normal and catches people out. Most women take a few days off work. Exercise, swimming, and sex wait several weeks, and Dr. Owens will give you the actual dates rather than a vague range.

The final shape keeps settling for a few months after the swelling goes, so early on is not what you are left with. We will see you for follow-ups along the way, and you can call in between if something worries you.

Is a Labiaplasty Right for You?

The real answer comes from someone looking. If what is bothering you is internal rather than the labia, we will point you at a vaginoplasty. If nothing needs operating on, we will tell you that too, and you will not have wasted anything but an hour.

Most women sit on this for years before they say it out loud. This is a women’s health practice, so for us it is a Tuesday. You do not need to tick every line below to come and ask about it.

Labiaplasty and Your Other Options

A labiaplasty is one of several feminine rejuvenation options here, and it is often done at the same time as a vaginoplasty since both are one recovery. Some women fold it into a Mommy Makeover.

Thinking about a labiaplasty but worried about the cost? We offer options like Cherry financing and layaway that may help make your plan more manageable. We can talk through the details at your consultation.
