According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, in 2007 nearly 350,000 women with small or underdeveloped breast choose to undergo breast augmentation. It is becoming one of the most sought after cosmetic procedures.
Dr. Gonzalez has been specially trained in a technique for placing implants under local anesthesia in the office. This allows the patient to avoid the risks and costs of general anesthesia and IV sedation. |
About the Procedure Before the start of the procedure, you will be given a mild sedative by mouth. You will then be brought to the operating room and prepped for surgery. Dr. Gonzalez will then numb the breast and place a small incision in the crease of the breast. A pocket for the implant will be made and the implant of your choice will be placed under the muscle. Upon completion of the surgery, you will be placed in a special garment and allowed to recover. Most of our patients leave the office 20-30 minutes after the surgery is finished. Patients should plan to have someone else drive them home and spend the night with them. F.A.Q.1] Where is the implant placed?
Breast implant can be placed directly under the breast tissue (subglandular) or under the muscle (subpectoral or submuscular) depending on the thickness of your breast tissue and its ability to adequately cover the breast implant.
2] Should I get Saline or Silicone?
Saline implants are the most common type of implants chosen. They are made from a silicone shell filled with sterile saline water and because the implant is filled after it is placed in the chest wall, a smaller incision is required.
Even though saline implants are used most often, silicone implants are also available. Silicone implants are filled with silicone gel and come prefilled from the manufacturer. They are also more costly and require a larger incision than the saline alternative. 3] What size implants should I get?
That will depend on your desired cup size, body frame and skin elasticity. Consults with Dr John Gonzalez are free, so make an appointment today.
4] Does your office offer payment plans?

5] How old do I have to be?
A woman must be at least 18 years of age to have breast augmentation.
6] What are some of the risks?
Infection, pain, bleeding, hematoma, asymmetry, loss of nipple sensation, wrinkling of the skin, being able to feel the implant, implant leakage or deflation and encapsulation of the implant.
7] Who are not candidates for breast implants with Acadia Women’s Health?
• Women who are pregnant or nursing.
• Patients with diabetes other serious health conditions. • Women with existing malignant or premalignant cancer of the breast without treatment. • Women with an undiagnosed breast lump. 8] When can I go back to work after having surgery?
Most patients return to work 3-4 days after their surgery.
9] Can I still breast feed if I have breast implants?
Yes, it is fine to nurse your baby after breast implants. Studies have shown that no adverse effects are seen in mother or baby.
10] Do implants have to be changed every ten years?
No, even though the warranty provided by the manufacturer is for ten years. By no means do your implants have to be changed unless you experience a problem or just want to change size.
